Gunung Kawi is a temple complex, constructed in the 11th century. It comprises ten shrines that are cut into the rock and that serve as funeral monuments. The depicted shrine is in the middle of five shrines one on the east side of the area and is dedicated to King Udayana, his queen Mahendradatta, and their sons Airlanga, Anak Wungsu, and Marakata.
