The Antwerp Town Hall on the Great Market was built in 1560 in Italian Renaissance style and was the model for many government buildings in Central and Northern Europe. As one of the country's most important Renaissance buildings, it is on the UNESCO World Heritage list.
The square is lined with numerous magnificent guild houses from the 16th and 17th centuries. In the middle of the square stands the Brabo fountain from 1887.
The square with its cafes and restaurants attracts many tourists nowadays.
