A narrow street in the historic center of Český Krumlov, leading toward the castle tower that dominates the town’s skyline.
The original photograph was taken by Josef Seidel, most likely in the first decade of the 20th century (c. 1900–1910), when he systematically documented everyday life in South Bohemia.

The street is lined with small shops and residences; pedestrians move along the cobbled surface, while the castle complex rises on a rocky outcrop beyond. The tower, in its Renaissance form, already appears as the fixed point around which daily life unfolds.

Seidel’s studio in Český Krumlov still exists today as the Seidel Photo Studio Museum, where the original cameras, glass plates, and equipment used for images like this have been preserved.

“The thing that hath been, it is that which shall be… and there is no new thing under the sun.”- Ecclesiastes 1:9
