View of the Groenerei canal from the Meebrug (a 15th-century bridge). On the right bank you can see the town hall from the 14th century and the country house of the Bruges Freiamt ("Brugse Vrije"), from which the area around Bruges was administered. From 1795 to 1984 it housed a court, since then the city archives. The facade on the canal side dates from the 17th century. At the beginning of the 18th century, the building was extended with a neoclassical construction.
Today the canal is a popular tourist destination and can be visited by boat.
