The Broel Towers ("Broeltorens") and the bridge over the Leie ("Broelbrug") are the landmarks of the Flemish city of Kortrijk. The southern "Speytorre" was built in 1385; the northern "Inghelburghtorre" around 1415. The former controlled traffic across the Leie, while the latter served as an armory and artillery tower. They were originally part of the medieval city wall. The Broelbrug was destroyed during both world wars and subsequently rebuilt. It features a statue of Saint John of Nepomuk (Nepomuk), the patron saint of bridges.
