2 Northport Avenue was built by John Kenney in 1889. He was born in Boston and was engaged in the lumber business in Boston and East Cambridge. He came to Belfast in 1887 and built his "handsome residence" on Northport Avenue. His obituary notes he was a businessman of the strictest integrity was was remarkably modest and unassuming." He died in 1895, his wife and daughter, Mrs. Albert C. Burgess of Belfast survived him.
