Rue du 4 septembre around 1877 and today. The road was built from 1864-69 in the wake of major urban renewal of Paris, the beautiful facades are typical examples of Haussman'schen style. The name recalls the proclamation of the Republic on 4 September 1870.
While houses Nos. 12 and 14 still exist, at no. 16 today was constructed one year later the headquarter of "Crédit Lyonnais", a large French bank.
