Mantes-la-Jolie with the “Collégiale Notre-Dame”, seen from the banks of the Seine. It dates from the 12th to 13th century and its architecture is reminiscent of Notre-Dame de Paris, which is why it's also called its "sister". To its right is the Saint-Maclou tower, the only remnant of the church destroyed during the Revolution.
With its location by the Seine and on the border between Île-de-France and Normandy, the city has played an important role over the centuries.
During the Second World War, large parts of the old town were destroyed by bombing, including the bridge (right), which has now been replaced by a modern structure.
