The Golden Gate Bridge from Baker Beach during its construction and today. The bridge that connects San Francisco to Marin County is considered the symbol of the Bay Area and California.
The construction started in 1933 and lasted 4 years during which it encountered many technical challenges. 1.2 million steel rivets and more than 80,000 miles of wire were installed - enough to wrap around the world more than three times. Eleven people died from fall. At the time of its opening in 1937 it was the longest and highest suspension bridge in the world, in 1995 it was declared a modern wonder of the world.
At the time the old photo was taken, the towers and horizontal cables were already being built; the vertical wire ropes and the road are still missing.

Le Golden Gate Bridge depuis Baker Beach lors de sa construction et aujourd'hui. Le pont qui relie San Francisco au comté de Marin est considéré comme le symbole de la Bay Area et de la Californie.
La construction a commencé en 1933 et a duré 4 ans au cours desquels elle a rencontré de nombreux défis techniques. 1,2 million de rivets en acier et plus de 80 000 miles de fil ont été installés - assez pour faire plus de trois fois le tour du monde. Onze personnes sont mortes d'une chute. Au moment de son ouverture en 1937, c'était le pont suspendu le plus long et le plus haut du monde. En 1995, il a été déclaré merveille moderne du monde.
Au moment où l'ancienne photo a été prise, les pylônes et les câbles horizontaux étaient déjà en construction ; les câbles métalliques verticaux et la route manquent toujours.
