In the background stands the imposing tower of the cathedral, which, alongside Strasbourg Cathedral, is considered one of the masterpieces of Gothic architecture in the Upper Rhine region. The town played an important role as a place of pilgrimage for many years. The old town features several houses dating from the Renaissance period.
