Guédelon is an archaeological and historical project started in 1997, in which a medieval castle is being built using 13th century techniques and materials. On the right, for example, you can see a pedal crane wheel used to lift loads such as stones.
Work has made good progress since August 2019 - one of the towers and the battlements next to the entrance gate have now been completed. Construction is increasingly shifting to finishing work, interior fittings, furniture, murals and technical details. New outbuildings such as stables, a mill and craft workshops have also been started or completed.
The project is likely to continue until around 2030, with new findings constantly being incorporated into the construction methods.
