The Kasbah des Oudayas (“kasbah” means citadel) is a district of the Moroccan capital Rabat located within a fortress. It has a long history dating back to the Phoenician period. The fortress was built in the 12th century by the Almohad dynasty and was subsequently extended. The name refers to a tribe that settled here. On the left is the monumental “Bab Oudaya” gate, the main entrance to the old town.
Today, the Kasbah, along with other sites in Rabat, is classified as a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is attracting more and more tourists. Morocco has invested heavily in the restoration of historical monuments in recent years.
