During the Second World War (1939-1945), the ducal castle in Zweibrücken was severely damaged, rebuilt in a three-year construction phase according to Sundahl's original plans and opened in 1965. Since then, the castle has housed the Palatinate Higher Regional Court and the Attorney General's Office.
