Der Markusdom (offiziell Basilika St. Markus, italienisch Basilica di San Marco)[1] ist eine römisch-katholische Kirche am Markusplatz in der italienischen Stadt Venedig. Der im Jahr 829 begonnene und 1094 vollendete byzantinische Sakralbau ist dem Evangelisten Markus geweiht und beherbergt auch dessen Gebeine. Der Dom war das zentrale Staatsheiligtum der Republik Venedig bis zu ihrem Ende 1797 und ist seit 1807[2] die Kathedrale des Patriarchen von Venedig. Er befindet sich am Markusplatz im Sestiere San Marco und bildet mit dem freistehenden Markusturm und dem angrenzenden Dogenpalast ein architektonisches Ensemble.

St. Mark's Basilica (officially Basilica di San Marco)[1] is a Roman Catholic church located in St. Mark's Square in the Italian city of Venice. Begun in 829 and completed in 1094, this Byzantine church is dedicated to St. Mark the Evangelist and houses his relics. The basilica was the central state sanctuary of the Republic of Venice until its dissolution in 1797 and has been the cathedral of the Patriarch of Venice since 1807[2]. It is located in St. Mark's Square in the San Marco district and forms an architectural ensemble with the freestanding St. Mark's Campanile and the adjacent Doge's Palace.
