In the historic pilgrimage town of Vézelay, time seems to have stood still. Little has changed, except for the parked cars and the visiting tourists.
The name of the square (which no longer seems to be used today) could refer to the nearby "Chapelle de la Cordelle", which is dedicated to the Holy Cross. Vézélay is now considered one of the most beautiful villages in France and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
