Dubrovnik and the island of Lokrum (Croatia) were photographed in 1926 by the well-known German photographer Kurt Hielscher and last weekend by me. The photo is taken from a viewpoint some 450 meters upstairs from Pile Gate, a calm place when I was there. I guess most tourists dive into the city on arrival and do not take the effort to go up for a steep walk to Gornji Kono street near the Jadranska Cesta, the main road passing Dubrovnik.

More of Kurt Hielscher's work and mine you'll find here: https://www.facebook.com/inthefootstepsofKurtHielscher (also from Germany, the countries of the former Yugoslavia, Austria and Romania) and on my Yugoslaviapage www.facebook.com/Yugoslavia1926PresentInthefootstepsofKurtHielscher/

Wow, so beautiful! Is it allowed to visit the small island?

Yes it is Lena, you can take a boat direct from the old harbor next to the city center. And it is worth it!
